Gemm

You can buy every record known to mankind here.

Except Georgio, obviously.

Popjustice

Read all about and listen to nice pop music at the marvellous Popjustice

The Rocking Vicar

‘Pop Apocrypha & Rock & Roll War Stories’ - and a totally fabulous newsletter.

Raiding The Vinyl Archive

This chap is called Mick and his music blog is excellent. His speciality is a few years earlier than I Am Not The Beatles - generally residing in an earlier part of the eighties.

His post of a song called ‘Contrasting Strangers’ by The Light was part of the process that helped us track Brian Atherton to Brazil.

 Planet Mondo

You” always learn something you don’t know over at Planet Mondo, and it’s always entertaining- his Funky Friday’s are turning into the stuff of legend.

The Long Player

Billy Bragg, Roxy Music, The Slits, Marvin Gaye to name a few. This is a place which has the extra twist of examining entire albums rather than just selected tracks. So, like Planet Mondo above, it’s always educational. Go and say hello.

Swimmer One

In an interview in The Independent, Andrew Eaton - Swimmerone’s vocalist - said :

“We’re asking people to dance but while they’re dancing we’re asking them to think of Samuel Beckett. My worry is that it’s a slightly odd combination. You don’t want to be thinking about philosophy on the dancefloor. It’s too big a jump.”

Too big or not, it is certainly a bigger jump than those faux jumpers Heartbeat UK managed.

Anyway, in a review of us on the Swimmer One website that frankly charmed our ever-easy pants off, he also claimed :

“…all success is fleeting. What comes afterwards looks a lot like I Am Not The Beatles. ”

So, in short, go to their website right now and listen to their music - it really is all rather marvellous.

Down With Tractors

Iain essentially alternates posting stuff I’ve never fucking heard of… with other stuff I haven’t heard for ages.

He’s a bit posh is our Iain, as he not only plays keyboards for those scamps Jesus Jones but also has a show on XFM.

This is our second linky to a keyboard player, by the way. If you pop off to nice people links you can also go and say hello to Rhodri who plays keyboards for Scritti Politti and was also very nice to us.

What is it about keyboard players and loveliness do you think ?

The Posh and Becks of Eurovision

It may not entirely surprise you to learn that I quite like Eurovision.

No matter how much I like it however, I have never gone as far as watching the Russian TV show which chose this years entry for them streamed dodgily over the internet.

These lovely people did, however - so now you don’t have to.

Pretending Life Is Like A Song

Too Much Apple Pie

Anybody who also knew exactly which Now That’s What I Call Music volume the terrifying ‘dance remix’ of Paul McCartney’s No More Lonely Nights was on gets a link by default.

Luckily their blog is fabulous.

Cassette From My Ex

This is a lovely idea.

Pick a compilation an old lover once gave you, digitise it, tell them your story and let other listen.

Fabulous.

Boys Wonder

Nick got all excited about Boys Wonder and, as a result, made his own webpage dedicated to them.

It is a very tasteful shade of pink and is a collation of info from a few different sources plus loads more exclusive stuff.

We had a good listen to Now What Earthman, here.

Dalston Oxfam Shop

This chap visits his local Oxfam shop and isn’t tempted by all that buy your friend a cow nonsense… he just buys old cassettes and stuff instead.

Todd, who is the ’this chap’ of the previous sentence, said something very nice about us which made us smile.
